Tipperary actor Daryl McCormack has been nominated for the Rising Star Award at this year's British Academy Film Awards - the BAFTAs.

Nenagh's McCormack, who made his big-screen breakthrough opposite Emma Thompson in last year's comedy-drama Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, is nominated alongside Naomi Ackie (Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody), Sheila Atim (The Woman King), Aimee Lou Wood (Living) and Emma Mackey (Emily).

McCormack's other credits include Peaky Blinders, Bad Sisters and Fair City.

The EE Rising Star Award is the only category at the BAFTAs that is voted for by the public.

Previous winners include Kristen Stewart, Tom Hardy, John Boyega and Letitia Wright.

The winner will be announced at the BAFTAs in London on Sunday 19 February. The full list of BAFTA nominees will be announced on Thursday, with hopes high for Irish talent.
