Irish indie trio KAZMS have released their new single Nothing I Can Say. We asked them the BIG questions . . .
KAZMS is a collaboration between Berlin/Dublin based Irish singer-songwriter Eoin Keely, Dublin electronic producer Ciarán Byrne and traditional Irish musician Seán Ó Casaide.
Speaking about their new track, they say, "This song is a reflection on the dying embers of a seven-year relationship. One that I should have ended years before I did.
"I didn't have the courage, maturity and honesty to do the right thing. It is, in part, an imagined conversation between unrequited lovers. I still harbour guilt about this eight years on.
"Worried that I gave reason for my partner to hold on to hope when, for me, all hope was lost. Sad that I left her in limbo for far too long and didn't let her move on. "Hope will sink a ship that never moves on."'
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I have a beautiful little, nearly three-year old-son, I'm very clumsy and I absolutely love coffee :)
How would you describe your music?
Rough around the edges, honest, thought-provoking (hopefully) indie electronic singer songwriter. There's a mouthful for you.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Damien Rice, Bon Iver, Frightened Rabbit, Pearl Jam and Sigur Rós ... We could be here all day. Haha.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Green Day in the Point Depot in 2000.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Stay Another Day by East 17. I think it was 1994.
What’s your favourite song right now?
Lungs by I Have a Tribe. He's an absolutely amazing Irish artist. Go check him out!
Favourite lyric of all time?
"Gods make their own importance". It's from the poem Epic by Patrick Kavanagh. The whole poem consists of only 14 short lines about random historical events, big and small, and ends with that killer line. I've never read a five-word sentence that has so much meaning.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
State Hospital by Frightened Rabbit. He was a lyrical genius. I hope that he found some peace.
