Succession actor Brian Cox has said he always knew the popular HBO black comedy-drama was going to be "something special" and admits he can't believe how fans have reacted to his character.
The 71-year-old Scottish actor, who was born in Dundee, Scotland, to an Irish family, admitted to Ryan Tubridy that he had a feeling the show would do well from the get-go.
Recalling his first meeting about the project on Friday's Late Late show, he said: "I was on the phone to both Adam McKay [Succession's executive producer and director] and Jesse Armstrong [show creator and writer]. Jesse was in Italy; Adam was in LA; and I happened to be in London. It was this three-way conversation.
"I thought... this is going somewhere."
"I said, 'I believe this is a one season part?'. There was a pause - and I swear to God - after a minute in synchronisation they said, 'Oh, no, no, no - there's going to be more than one season'. And that was it".

Cox, who plays the foul-mouthed patriarch of the Roy family's media empire Waystar Royco in the Emmy-winning drama, said his overuse of the F-word on the show has become a talking point among fans.
Discussing how viewers react to his character's constant swearing, he said: "Well, it started one night when I was doing a play on Broadway at the Lincoln Center. Afterwards, there was this young girl who was about seventeen with her boyfriend."
Cox explained how after declaring that they were huge fans of the show, the young couple asked if they could take a video of him saying his infamous catchphrase.
"After fifty years of having major classical career - and playing everything under the sun - and he was known for his famous f*** offs," he laughed.
