The Banshees of Inisherin and Everything Everywhere All At Once dominated the Screen Actors Guild Award nominations on Tuesday with Colin Farrell poised to continue his streak of award-season success.
The two films each scored five nods apiece, tying the record for most nominations previously set by Shakespeare in Love (1998), Chicago (2002) and Doubt (2008).
Farrell, who stars in Martin McDonagh's film The Banshees Of Inisherin, picked up his nomination in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role category. He faces competition from Austin Butler (Elvis), Brendan Fraser (The Whale), Bill Nighy (Living) and Adam Sandler (Hustle).
It comes shortly after he received the Golden Globe award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy for the role, on Tuesday.
Farrell is also nominated for a lead actor role at the Critics Choice Awards (CCA) on Sunday, standing him in good stead to receive a coveted Oscar nod later this month.
Farrell's Banshees co-stars Barry Keoghan and Brendan Gleeson both received nominations in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role category alongside Paul Dano (The Fablemans), Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All At Once) and Eddie Redmayne (The Good Nurse).
Kerry Condon was also nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role. The Thurles actress is up against Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), Hong Chau (The Whale), Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All At Once) and Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All At Once).
Both movies are nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture – the SAG equivalent of Best Picture.
They will compete against Damien Chazelle’s Hollywood period drama, Babylon, Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical story, The Fabelmans, and Sarah Polley’s look at sexual assault in a religious community, Women Talking.
Everything Everywhere All At Once, from directing duo the Daniels, also received nominations for Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, both of whom also won Globes. It also picked up Supporting Actress nominations for Jamie Lee Curtis and breakout star Stephanie Hsu
