The Banshees of Inisherin is heavily represented on the longlist for this year's British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA), with McDonagh and stars Kerry Condon, Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan all in contention for shortlist nominations on 19 January.
Writer-director Martin McDonagh'sIn total, London-Irish filmmaker McDonagh's latest has secured 14 places on the longlist including Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor (Farrell), Best Supporting Actor (Gleeson and Keoghan), and Best Supporting Actress (Condon). The Banshees of Inisherin was filmed on Inis Mór and Achill Island.
There is further Irish interest on the Best Actor longlist: Paul Mescal is in contention for a nomination for his performance in Aftersun and Daryl McCormack for his role in Good Luck to You, Leo Grande.
The hit Irish-language film An Cailín Ciúin (The Quiet Girl) is longlisted for Best Film Not in the English Language. Its writer-director, Colm Bairéad, is in contention for Best Director and Adapted Screenplay nominations for his work on the film version of author Claire Keegan's Foster.
Also vying for Adapted Screenplay and Outstanding British Film nominations is The Wonder - filmed in Ireland and adapted from Emma Donoghue's book of the same name.
The Northern Irish film An Irish Goodbye is longlisted for Best British Short Film.
BAFTA voting will continue until Friday 13 January. The shortlist of nominees will be announced on Thursday 19 January. The awards will take place in London on Sunday 19 February.
