Streaming on RTÉ Player

Last Christmas, How Ireland Rocked The ‘70s offered a fascinating insight into a defining decade of rock music in Ireland.

In the wake of that, it’s a complete no-brainer to carry the story on into a truly amazing decade for Irish rock as it sashayed its way through the 1980s, leaving an indelible impression.

The big live outdoor music shows held in Ireland during that decade included Siamsa Cois Laoí, various gigs at Slane Castle, the bizarre Self Aid fundraiser, and U2 headlining at Croke Park.

The documentary features contributions from the likes of Boomtown Rat Bob Geldof (above), Slane Castle owner Henry Mountcharles, Waterboy Mike Scott, promoter Peter Aiken and Pogue Cáit O'Riordan.

Opry le Daniel: Joe Dolan Tribute, 9.30pm, TG4

Daniel O'Donnell presents the new run of Opry le Daniel ar Turas from the Theatre Royal in Waterford.

This episode celebrates the music of the late and legendary Joe Dolan, and Daniel O'Donnell will be joined by Michael English, Jimmy Buckley and Frankie, Keith and Lorraine McDonald, to sing the pick of Joe Dolan's most memorable hits.

1917, 9.00pm, BBC One

Sam Mendes' war drama, starring Dean-Charles Chapman, George MacKay, Daniel Mays and Colin Firth, is thew pick of today’s many movies.

On April 6, 1917, Lance Corporal Tom Blake and Lance Corporal William Schofield receive orders from General Erinmore to prevent Colonel Mackenzie from leading The 2nd Devons into a trap set by the Germans.

The soldiers must proceed on foot into enemy territory to deliver the message, which will stop 1,600 men from walking straight into a deadly trap.

Miriam Margolyes: Australia Unmasked, 9.30pm, BBC Two

The indomitable Miriam Margolyes embarks on a journey Down Under to explore the Australian ethos of 'the Fair Go'.

It’s a core value for Aussies that promotes opportunity for all regardless of background or wealth, and how it plays out in the lives of her fellow citizens.

Miriam begins her Australian adventure in the former penal settlement of Lutruwita, Tasmania, questioning how a Fair Go could have begun in a place like this.

As she makes her way from north to south, she is confronted with the complexities of Tasmania's rich history, and meets those still fighting for a Fair Go.

Chelsea Handler: Revolution, Netflix

American comedian, actress, writer, television host, and producer Chelsea Handler is back with her new Netflix stand-up special.

The celebrated, award-winning comedian lets loose on her life – and isn’t noted for being someone who takes prisoners.

Along the way she includes topics such as her choice to remain childless and alone (with the exception of her dogs), dating during the pandemic while her family invades her home, and her vision for a future where men don’t wear flip flops.

Some chance of that.
