The Christmas crackers are along traditional lines with the likes of Mrs Brown's Boys, Strictly Come Dancing and Call the Midwife all making a reappearance on this day of days . . .
Mrs Brown’s Boys, 9.25pm, RTÉ One
For many, Christmas just wouldn’t be the same without some fun and games with Brendan O’Carroll and co.
It’s Christmas time once again in Finglas, and this year Cathy has a new boyfriend.
A last-minute change of plans leaves Agnes babysitting the widower’s twins while he and Cathy head to Foley’s for a quiet, romantic drink.
When they arrive a Christmas party is in full swing and Boris is reluctantly initiated into the Brown family madness.
Not everyone is convinced he’s right for Cathy and there are even suspicions he might be a vampire.
But it’s not Boris that Agnes is worried about, she has her own concerns over his creepy twins. Perhaps Buster’s magical Christmas tree could shed some light on the matter.
Then, during all the festive madness, Bono is on an eco-kick and Agnes has something to say about it.
Call the Midwife, 7.55pm, BBC One
This long-running series is such a comfort blanket – even in the wake of a disaster.
As Christmas 1967 comes round, Poplar is returning to normal after the train crash and Matthew is delighted to see the return of Trixie from Portofino.
The midwives move the clinic into new premises, where they treat old patient Rhoda, who is understandably nervous after her last baby was born with limbs affected by Thalidomide.
And there’s also a heavily pregnant single mother who is recently released from prison.
Meanwhile, Fred comes up with the idea of a festive talent show to raise money for those still affected by the crash.
Cyril Cusack: Lár an Stáitse, 9.30pm, TG4
It’s just stating a fact that the late Cyril Cusack is one of Ireland’s greatest-ever actors.
His long career began in the early days of Irish silent cinema and saw him conquer stage, screen and television.
Cusack had the ability to appeal to many generations across his 75-year career. No mean feat.
To some he was the movie star who popped up in major Hollywood films. To others he was Uncle Peter in Glenroe.
He was an actor – but he was also a poet, playwright and Irish language enthusiast.
Featuring rare family photos, exclusive interviews with his six children and the greatest moments from his long career, this documentary is the definitive portrait of one of our finest actors.
Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special, 5.10pm, BBC One
Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman (below) present the annual special of the much-loved dance contest show, which has just completed its 20th run on the Beeb.
This edition sees singer Nicola Roberts, DJ Rickie Haywood-Williams, podcaster Rosie Ramsey, actor Larry Lamb, CBBC presenter George Webster and former Corrie star Alexandra Mardell perform festive routines in the hope of lifting the coveted Strictly Christmas trophy.
There's also a special performance from a ghost of Strictly past - Bruno Tonioli. Is Anton's judging seat safe?
Little Women, 4.05pm, RTÉ One
As ever, there’s a mountain of great movies on today, ranging from Some Like it Hot to Wonder Woman 1984 to Downton Abbey.
Perhaps the pick of the bunch – if you haven’t seen it before – is writer/director Greta Gerwig's adaptation of the Louisa May Alcott novel, starring Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson and Florence Pugh.
In 1868, New York City teacher Jo March goes to Mr Dashwood, an editor who agrees to publish a story she has written.
She reflects back and forth on her life, telling the story of the March sisters - four young women, each determined to live life on her own terms.
