Ahead of some big Christmas episodes, we catch up with new Fair City star Shane Quigley Murphy to find out what's in store when his character, Gar, arrives in Carrigstown.
You're the new man in Carrigstown! Having watched on TV and now being a part of the cast, what's the one thing that you think fans don't realise about the show?
The actors on screen are only a small part of the hard-working, efficient and brilliant team that keep this show going. From wardrobe to lighting, writing and editing, Carrigstown is in safe hands.
Sum Gar up in three words.
Optimistic
Playful
Present
What intrigues you most about him?
His positive outlook and his history.
Without giving too much away, there's a lot to unpack with Gar. How much have you been told about the twists up the road?
I have not been told a lot about any twists up the road. I'm only a few weeks ahead of you.
Do you think viewers will be on his side from the get-go or is he a tougher nut to crack?
I think that Gar's story will resonate with some people. It always adds intrigue when another face appears in town.
Gar and Dearbhla hit it off immediately. What would your own advice be for him - and her?
My advice would be to take it slow. Enjoy the small moments and keep it honest.
What's on your New Year's wish list for Gar?
A chance for him to heal old wounds and find true belonging and, potentially, love.
Fair City airs on RTÉ One and the RTÉ Player on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
