Gabriel Byrne is to star opposite Ana de Armas and Keanu Reeves in Ballerina, the new spin-off film from the John Wick action franchise.
"For decades, Gabriel's mysterious and enigmatic presence has enriched dozens of films," Ballerina producer Basil Iwanyk told US entertainment trade publication Deadline.
"You can never quite be sure what he's thinking, and that's perfect for this world."
Ballerina tells the story of Rooney (de Armas), an assassin out to track down the killers of her family, with Reeves reprising his role as anti-hero hitman John Wick. There are no details on Byrne's character at present.
The cast of Ballerina includes John Wick stars Anjelica Huston, Ian McShane and Lance Riddick, with Catalina Sandino Moreno and Norman Reedus also on board.
Filming is under way on Ballerina, and Len Wiseman (the Underworld franchise) is directing.
Byrne will next be seen in the Samuel Beckett biopic Dance First, directed by The Theory of Everything's James Marsh.
