Mary Berry

Today's tips include Mary Berry's Ultimate Christmas, 10 Things to Know About, Yellowstone prequel 1923 and The Unofficial Science of Home Alone . . .

Mary Berry's Ultimate Christmas, 8.00pm, BBC One

My favourite thing about Christmas is the grub.

Here, Angela Hartnett, Monica Galetti and Rylan join Mary for a Christmas feast, featuring stilton and sage mini scone canapes, lemon and herb roast turkey with all the trimmings, and a Christmas pudding from a traditional medieval recipe.

Angela cooks up rich pumpkin ricotta tortelli, a seasonal tradition for her Italian family, while Monica contributes Samoan palusami with smoked haddock, cavolo hero and Sourdough, and Rylan prepares some festive cocktails.

Please don't watch this trailer on an empty stomach. I did, and I nearly took a bite out of my laptop!

10 Things to Know About, 8.30pm, RTÉ One

Streaming on RTÉ Player

Christmas can be tough for a lot of people, so this is timely.

Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin, Kathriona Devereux and Jonathan McCrea examine research into mental health, meeting people collaborating to improve access to services for adolescents in rural and marginalised communities.

They also hear from Irish scientist studying zebrafish to explore whether the microbiome can affect hormones like oxytocin, and identify mechanisms that could lead to better understanding and management of illnesses.

Five Star Christmas: Inside Corinthia, 8.00pm, Channel 4

Here’s a festive look behind the scenes at one of Britain's most exclusive hotels, the Corinthia in London. It's a nice place alright.

This year, the hotel has collaborated with a global luxury brand to host a Christmas party to remember.

Restaurateur Tom Kerridge is on the hunt for the very best ingredients for his chef's spectacular new Christmas menu, while the team work closely with the girlfriend of one VIP to arrange for a gospel choir to perform a surprise serenade for her partner during their stay.

1923, Paramount+

This series is a prequel to the Kevin Costner-starring Paramount Network series Yellowstone and serves as a sequel to the series 1883.

No less than Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren star as Jacob and Carra Dutton, the heads of the Dutton family in 1923, during a time of various hardships.

They include Western Expansion, Prohibition, and the Great Depression, which in Montana started a decade earlier than the rest of the United States.

The Unofficial Science of Home Alone, 9.00pm, Sky Max

Streaming on NOW

Comedians James Acaster, Guz Khan and Alex Brooker have all been obsessed with the classic 1990 comedy Home Alone ever since they were kids.

Christmas isn’t Christmas until you’ve watched kid Kevin McAllister, played by Macauley Culkin, set a series of deadly traps to deter the inept burglars The Wet Bandits from breaking into his house.

But there’s one big burning question that Home Alone fans need answering; would Harry & Marv survived those traps in real life?

Well, it’s time to find out!

Guz and James (below) will be stepping into the shoes of the Wet Bandits, Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern, and will be assisted by an engineer as they build their own versions of some of the most memorable boobytraps from the film such as the 'The Blowtorch to the Head’ and ‘The Swinging Paint Can’.

They’ll find out what damage they would do in real life, figure out how science can help them survive the traps, and then use what they’ve learned to take on the stunts themselves as they attempt to catch their very own Kevin McAllister.

And Superfan Alex Brooker is living out his wildest dreams as he heads to the USA to meet some of the cast and stuntmen involved in the film, visit some of its iconic locations and learn more about the traps and stunts that Guz and James will be attempting along the way.

Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal!
