Adam Clayton used to be the one member of U2 who looked even remotely rock 'n’ roll – now he comes across like some art-loving lord of the manor. How times change . . .

Here he retraces a trip the artist Francis Bacon (above) took to Ireland in 1929 with his friend and diarist Eric Allden, revealing a new picture of Bacon's relationship with the land of his birth.

The documentary charts a course from Dublin to Kildare, London, Monaco and Renvyle in Galway, to bring Allden's diaries to life.

Neven's Christmas at Muckross Traditional Farms, 8.00pm, RTÉ One

The second of two special in which chef Neven Maguire demonstrates a selection of festive recipes.

This week he prepares smoked trout pate and chicken liver parfait, both ideal as starters or canapes.

He then meets Mary Cahil, who teaches him a traditional Christmas recipe for yeast bread, before Neven serves up ham, leek and mushroom pie, and roast turkey breast.

He rounds off his feast with oat cookies with cranberries and walnuts.

The Secret Genius of Modern Life, 8.00pm, Channel 4

Hannah Fry (below) visits eBay's Authentication Centre where they're waging war against fake high value trainers/runners.

She discovers how American breakfast waffles transformed the sports shoe's soles, and how an 18th-century tea set led to the use of celebrity endorsement.

Stacey Solomon’s Crafty Christmas, 8.00pm, BBC One

Along with her husband Joe Swash and family, Stacey Solomon (below) teams up with professional organiser Dilly Carter to reveal some clever ways to cut costs, upcycle and spread some home-made cheer at Christmas time.

Stacey transforms a neighbouring barn into a Christmas grotto for a festive party with her local community and from DIY Christmas crackers to garlands and heart-felt gifts.

She also demonstrates how to craft a magical family Christmas without breaking the bank.

Joe Lycett v David Beckham: A Got Your Back Christmas Special, 9.00pm, Channel 4

The presenter Joe Lycett (below) locks horns with David Beckham - one of the world's most famous footballers - to highlight the true cost of the Qatar World Cup.

Cameras observe him on the nerve-shredding days leading up to his biggest headline hijacking stunt to date - the apparent destruction of £10,000.

Joe also brings the good fight to one of the UK's biggest sellers of Christmas cards and reunites the cast of a TV classic.
