Glee star Damian McGinty is the seventh celebrity announced for season six of Dancing with the Stars, which returns to RTÉ One in January.

He joins previously announced contestants Shane Byrne, Dr Marie Cassidy, Panti (aka Rory O'Neill), Brooke Scullion, Paul Brogan, and Suzanne Jackson.

Damian confirmed he would be vying for the glitterball this afternoon while chatting to Ray Foley on Today FM.

In 2011, Damian won US reality show The Glee Project, having been selected from 40,000 people to take part in the talent competition.

He landed the role of Rory Flanagan in the popular television series Glee, which he played for three years.

He went on to star with Glee co-star Heather Morris, who played Brittany on the show, in the family movie Santa Fake.

Damian said, "Dancing with the Stars is a major challenge for me, one I am really excited and also very nervous about. Dancing has never been a strong point of mine, quite the opposite, but I'm eager to get to work.

"It feels like a great time to simply go out there and enjoy the experience, and I can't wait to get started."

Damian is from Derry and calls Nashville home these days. He has been performing with Celtic Thunder since he was 14. Over the years he has performed with the group all over the world and today he is part of the legacy tour.

He also performs solo and released his first EP in 2012 which went to No 1 in Ireland and No 3 in US iTunes. He released a new album in November 2022 called Moments.

He married Anna Claire Sneed in 2019 in Memphis.
