New Irish-Scottish duo SIIGHTS have released their new single, Fake It. We asked them the BIG questions . . .

Born in Dublin and Glasgow respectively, songwriters, producers, and multi-instrumentalists Mia and Toni first met by chance in Los Angeles, where they were hustling in the studio for others.

Speaking about Fake It, they say, "Lyrically, the song talks about the struggles of allowing yourself to open up to someone. There's a theme of hopefulness throughout, which we want to be at the core of SIIGHTS."

SIIGHTS are due to release their debut EP for Sony Music early next year.

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

Hey! We’re a band from Ireland and Scotland. We write and produce our music and we play a bunch of instruments between us!

How would you describe your music?

We try to be open and vulnerable with our lyrics and we hope through us doing that it can maybe make someone else feel less alone and more understood. We just want to make people feel something, whatever that is. Whether it’s a song that makes you laugh or cry. It’s something to soundtrack those moments in your life. Stylistically Its very instrument driven but with electronic elements. Its energetic but with very intimate and vulnerable moments.

Who are your musical inspirations?

We both have quite a few across different styles of music from folk to funk/soul to rock but definitely love Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac, Bon Iver, Alanis Morrissette, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Tracy Chapman, Prince and The Beatles - we both were introduced to a lot of music by our parents growing up.

Mia: My Dad is a great classical pianist, so I was introduced to a lot of classical and choral music growing up also which I’m very grateful for.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Mia: I think mine was The Foo Fighters.

Toni: I think my first proper one was a festival - T in the Park.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Can’t think exactly of the first ever records we actually bought as both our parents had good record collections that we would listen to as kids, but we just went vinyl shopping the other day

Mia: I picked up Zero 7 - Simple Things and one from Sly & The Family Stone.

Toni: I picked up Harry’s House and Sgt Pepper’s by The Beatles.

What’s your favourite song right now?

We’re both really liking - Del Water Gap’s Hurting Kind right now

Favourite lyric of all time?

This is such a great question and since lyrics are so important to both of us it can change from day to day - a favourite we always come back to by Joni Mitchel - "We are stardust we are golden and we’ve got to get ourselves back to the garden."

From Bob Dylan - "Yes, and how many times must a man look up, Before he can see the sky? And how many ears must one man have, Before he can hear people cry? Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows, That too many people have died? The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind, The answer is blowin' in the wind."

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

This is such a hard question! But think maybe London Grammar’s Stay Awake is definitely in the running, along with Otherside by Red Hot Chilli Peppers and the acoustic session of Gorgeous by X Ambassadors is beautiful.

Where can people find your music/more information?

We’re on all the social media platforms if you search @SIIGHTS and on twitter @SIIGHTSOfficial.
