Kildare's Paul Mescal is to star in a film based on British author Charles Cumming's novel A Spy By Nature.
The story is based around his character, who is "morally ambivalent" and sells secrets about oil somewhere in the USSR.
Director Kevin Macdonald told the Daily Mail, "This is a modern spy story - sexy, dangerous, morally ambivalent - and only an actor of Paul's talent could pull it off."
Filming is expected to begin next year.
