Co Down youngster is Ireland's Junior Eurovision hopeful

Co Down teenager Sophie Lennon will represent Ireland at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Armenia in December with the Irish-language song Solas.

The 13-year-old was chosen to represent Ireland after winning the first-ever live public vote on the TG4 show Junior Eurovision.

Solas was written by Niall Mooney, who also wrote Niamh Kavanagh's It's for You and numerous Junior Eurovision entries.

This year's BBC School Soloist of the Year winner, she has previously performed on Britain's Got Talent and in numerous West End shows, also clocking up over seven million views with her rendition of O Holy Night.

"I'm beyond excited for Armenia and to represent my home country Ireland on the world stage," she told RTÉ Entertainment. "It's something I've always dreamt of, and I hope I will make Ireland proud."

"My song for Ireland is so beautiful," she added. "It is a really important message that no matter how bad times get, there's always a light inside of you that will see you through those difficult times."

The 20th Junior Eurovision Song Contest will take place on 11 December in Yerevan, Armenia and will be broadcast live on TG4.
