The band recently released their first ever best of compilation album, Paleanthology, a 13-song collection of highlights from their career, featuring some new recordings of some of their most loved songs re-recorded especially for the release.

Speaking about the tour, Matthew says, "Performing Here's One We Made Earlier in 2022 is something that would have been hard for us to imagine in 1992.

"It is humbling to think that people still want to hear these songs. Believe us when we say that it feels like a privilege to play these 30-year-old songs for an audience.

"Some songs from the album have evolved and have been reimagined over the years and some songs haven't changed at all, but all of them feel newly reinvigorated by this tour. We cannot wait."

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I have been a singer for the guts of thirty years. I have a long-standing fixation for writing words for songs. I have a habit of oversharing and tendency toward over-excitability, but that can be remedied when my hand is writing. Thank Jaysus.

How would you describe your music?

An undulating organism of musical styles, producing increasingly unexpected colours.

Who are your musical inspirations?

We have always looked to the very edges for guidance. Captain Beefheart, Nina Simone, The Fall, Violent Femmes, Horslips, Stump, The Pogues, Scott Walker, to name a small but powerful few.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Frankie Goes To Hollywood at the RDS. The whole show was mimed, and nobody seemed to care.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Long Haired Lover From Liverpool by Jimmy Osmond. Had a brilliantly creepy B-Side called Mother Of Mine, which in retrospect actually sounds quite like a melody The Pale would write.

What’s your favourite song right now?

There'd Better Be A Mirrorball by Arctic Monkeys.

Favourite lyric of all time?

"She said I know you and you cannot sing. I Said 'That's nothing, you should hear me play piano" - The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Ashes To Ashes - David Bowie.
