Danny Boyle has revealed a script has been penned for the highly-anticipated third movie in the 28 Days Later franchise and admits he is "tempted" to direct the latest outing.
The Oscar-winning director, who helmed the popular 2002 horror movie but not the 2007 follow-up 28 Weeks Later, said that the opportunity to adapt Alex Garland's script for 28 Months Later is appealing.
The original movie, which followed leading man Jim (Cillian Murphy) as he wakes up from a coma to a deserted Britain that has been devastated by a highly contagious virus, said he is hopeful the new movie will make it to the big screen.
Speaking to NME, the 66-year-old filmmaker said: "I'd be very tempted [to direct it]. It feels like a very good time actually.
"It's funny, I hadn't thought about it until you just said it, and I remembered, "Bang, this script!" which is again set in England, very much about England. Anyway, we'll see… who knows?"
Boyle explained how it has become more difficult to get a theatrical release for films due to the takeover of streaming, which has turned him off wanting him to make movies for cinema.
"It might come back into focus because one of the things that's happening in the business at the moment is it has to be a big reason for you to go to the cinema, because there are less and less reasons.
"It's hard for companies distributing films and for cinema chains to show films, they're struggling to get people into the cinema unless it's something like Top Gun: Maverick or a Marvel."
