Irish stars Jessie Buckley, Colin Farrell and Paul Mescal, as well as The Banshees of Inisherin, have been nominated for Gotham Awards.
The announcement for the 32nd Gotham Awards signals the unofficial start of awards season in the US, with The Banshees of Inisherin, set to feature in the coming months.
Martin McDonagh's pitch-black tale about the end of a friendship on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland is vying for Best International Feature alongside Athena by Roman Gavras, Corsage by Marie Kreutzer, Decision to Leave by Park Chan-wook, Happening by Audrey Diwan, and Saint Omer by Alice Diop.
Colin Farrell picked up an Outstanding Lead Performance nomination for After Yang, which also picked up a nomination for outstanding screenplay. Paul Mescal is also nominated in this category for his critically acclaimed performance in Aftersun.
They are up against Brendan Fraser, for his transformative performance in The Whale. As well as Cate Blanchett (Tár), Danielle Deadwyler (Till), Dale Dickey (A Love Song), Thandiwe Newton (God's Country), Aubrey Plaza (Emily the Criminal), Taylor Russell (Bones and All), and Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All At Once).
Jessie Buckley has been nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Performance category alongside her Women Talking co-star Ben Whishaw. Also nominated in this category are Raúl Castillo (The Inspection), Hong Chau (The Whale), Brian Tyree Henry (Causeway), Nina Hoss (Tár), Noémie Merlant (Tár), Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All At Once) Mark Rylance (Bones And All) and Gabrielle Union (The Inspection).
The Gotham Awards take place on 28 November.
