Christy Moore made one of his youngest fan's dreams come true when the folk legend invited him up on stage to join him in an impromptu duet.

10-year-old Míceál Bennett from Mullaghbawn in County Armagh has been "singing Christy since before he could talk" and was enjoying a Christy gig in the Armagh City Hotel on Thursday night when the singer invited him to sing fan favourite Nancy Spain.

A delighted Míceál knew every word and was then presented with a plectrum by the singer.

Speaking to RTÉ Entertainment, his proud mother Dearbhla said, "Míceál has always been obsessed with Christy and knows every song. It’s impossible to put into words how we felt as it was such a moment. Christy just doesn’t do this, so it was beyond anything we’d ever expected by a hundred miles!

"Míceál just kept staring at the plectrum Christy gave him and whispering, 'dreams really do come true’. He could have been called for any one of those songs and he’d have known the words to them all."

She added, "Me and my husband were Christy fans before we met. Our first wedding dance was to The Voyage. There are videos of Míceál singing Beeswing aged three."

Posting on Twitter after the clip began to go viral, Dearbhla also said, "To everyone there who cheered him, stood for him and came up to him afterwards, you’ll never know how happy you made him.

"He’s been singing Christy since before he could talk, and Christy has replied to every letter Míceál wrote him. Christy is a living legend."

77-year-old Christy is currently touring Ireland and will pay tribute to Cork Life Centre's Don O’Leary in a special concert at the Cork Opera House on Sunday, 6 November.
