An Cailín Ciúin, Ireland's entry for Best International Feature Film at next year’s Oscars, has grossed over €1 million at the Irish and UK box office after 22 weeks in cinemas.
The acclaimed Irish language film, which has already won the Grand Prix Award at the Berlinale and seven Irish Film and Television Academy Awards, was made by husband-and-wife team Colm Bairéad and Cleona Ní Chrualaoi and stars newcomer Catherine Clinch, Carrie Crowley, and Andrew Bennett.
Adapted from Irish author Claire Keegan’s story, Foster, the film is an intimate coming of age drama that tells the story of Cáit (Clinch), a shy young girl who blossoms after she is sent from her overcrowded, dysfunctional household to live with distant relatives for the summer.
"We are truly humbled by the manner in which audiences in Ireland and the UK have embraced our film, said Colm Bairéad and Cleona Ní Chrualaoi.
