Baz Luhrmann received 'beautiful letter' from Priscilla Presley after Elvis biopic

Director Baz Luhrmann has said he received a "beautiful letter" from Priscilla Presley following his recent Elvis biopic and admits he ended up enjoying a barbeque with the iconic family at Elvis' former Graceland mansion in Memphis.

The acclaimed filmmaker, who is best known for creating movies such as Moulin Rouge!, The Great Gatsby and Australia, said Priscilla was concerned about his project.

Speaking on The Ryan Tubridy Show on RTÉ Radio 1, the 60-year-old Australian star said: I did meet with Lisa Marie - and Riley [Keough] who is wonderful a young director and actor - and then Priscilla who was helpful. But then I became estranged because of the pandemic.

"Long story short, understandably, Priscilla was very concerned about what I was going to do and how Austin Butler was going to play Elvis.

"She went to see it and in a flood of tears I get a beautiful letter in which she said - 'every breath, every move, if my husband was here, he'd say: 'hot damn, you are me!' to Austin."

Luhrmann explained how his movie brought the family together and admits he had a wonderful time in "the second most visited house in America".

"What happens is, the family comes together, and I end up back in Graceland with the whole family having a barbeque and we're in The Jungle Room having cocktails and playing on the billiard table," he explained.

"You know it's the second most visited house in America. The first is The White House, so that's how many people go through it."

Luhrmann also said he is extremely fond of the Emerald Isle and said he is good friends with U2 frontman, Bono.

"I have been to Ireland, you know what I am a friend of a singer Bono and I occasionally go out there and see him sing so, him and the band. I love Ireland it is a cool place."
