Double Oscar winner Hilary Swank has announced that she and her husband Philip Schneider are expecting twins, describing the couple's happy news as "a total miracle".

US magazine People reports that 48-year-old Swank announced her pregnancy on Good Morning America on US television on Wednesday.

"This is something that I've been wanting for a long time and my next thing is I'm gonna be a mom," she said. "And not just of one, but of two. I can't believe it."

"It's so nice to be able to talk about it and share it," Swank continued.

Swank later appeared on Live with Kelly and Ryan on US television and told hosts Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest that twins run in both her family and her husband's.

"It's such a blessing," she added. "It's a total miracle. It's unbelievable."

Swank and social venture entrepreneur Schneider married in August 2018.
