Memphis band Catholic School have released new single Needle In The Storm and Johnny Thunders cover So Alone. We asked front man John Christie the BIG questions . . .
West Tennessee multi-instrumentalist Christie started making solo material in 2019 and took to the studio in 2020, reaching deep into his past as a recovering drug addict.
The current line-up of Catholic School includes Christie, Corbin Limebarrier (drums), Jerry Leek (bass), Andrew McDougal (synths) and Kip Uhlhorn (guitar).
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I have three kids I adore. I collect animation production artwork. Work at a Chinese restaurant
How would you describe your music?
I typically say depressive punk rock. I'm sure someone can correct me.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Soft Kill, Cocteau Twins, Sunny Day Real Estate, Three 6 Mafia, The Ramones.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Lollapalooza 96 in West Palm Beach FL. Primarily to see The Ramones. Screaming Trees, The Melvins, Rage and few others were there.
What was the first record you ever bought?
It may have been Brain Drain by the Ramones.
What's your favourite song right now?
Magic Garden by Soft Kill. Honestly just so good.
