Fans have reacted with anger after Stone Roses singer Ian Brown played a sold-out gig in Leeds gig last night during which he performed his songs to backing tracks and no band.

Brown kicked off his first UK headline tour in a decade at Leeds' O2 Academy on Sunday night but after the gig, fans took to social media to share their disappointment with his set, with one disgruntled punter remaking, "Ian Brown does karaoke and butchers his own tunes".

The NME reports that another fan tweeted footage from the show and said: "Gutted to see Ian Brown turn up to his £40 a ticket, sold out gig at leeds tonight WITH NO BAND.

"I’m a life-long fan but it was bad. Ian Brown does karaoke and butchers his own tunes. Most were too p***ed to care but I had to get out after this one."

Another said, "50 quid to see Ian brown off his head doing karaoke like he’s in Neptune’s bar."

Brown sang no Stones Roses songs during his set and one fan urged people to sell their tickets for the rest of his tour.

"Anyone who has Ian Brown tickets for the tour, sell them now," they said. "Talk about desecrating the memory of the Stone Roses - he’s just done it one evening."

However, other fans defended Brown’s show. "Top night in Leeds thanks to Ian Brown. Ignore the twitter w***ers, I was there and I saw a sold out show full of people on their feet enjoying every minute."

Ian Brown last played Ireland with The Stone Roses in Marlay Park in 2016.
