Handmade: Britain’s Best Woodworker, 8.00pm, Channel 4

Mel Giedroyc (below) returns with the carpentry contest that’s basically a carpentry version of Bake Off.

It sees 10 woodworking enthusiasts fight hammer and nail as they create various projects that combine epic scale with fine craftsmanship and cutting-edge design.

In order to remain in the competition they have to impress the judges, entrepreneur and woodworking expert Sophie Sellu and design academic Tom Dyckhoff.

All the while a series of surprise challenges keep them on their toes - and give them the chance to win a lifeline.

Escape from Kabul Airport, 9.00pm, BBC Two

Here’s the inside story of the largest airlift in modern US history, which took place in August 2021 when America withdrew its troops from Afghanistan, marking the end of its longest war.
