US network NBC will resume broadcasting the Golden Globe Awards for film and television in January 2023, the network has said in a statement.
The Comcast-owned network cancelled its January 2022 airing of the annual ceremony following a backlash over a lack of diversity and ethical lapses among the award organiser, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).
In the statement announcing the awards' return to NBC on Tuesday 10 January 2023, Frances Berwick, NBC Universal Television and Streaming's Chair of Entertainment Networks, said: "We recognise the HFPA's commitment to ongoing change and look forward to welcoming back the Golden Globes to NBC for its landmark 80th anniversary in January 2023."
HFPA President Helen Hoehne added: "It's great to be back at the Beverly Hilton for the must-see celebration recognising the best in film and television.
"The HFPA remains committed to important changes and supporting programmes which [sic] prioritise diversity, inclusion, and transparency. See you on January 10!"
The nominees will be announced on Monday 12 December.
The Golden Globes became mired in controversy regarding diversity, sexism, and ethics after a Los Angeles Times investigation in February 2021, with studios and PR firms subsequently boycotting the submission process and refusing to make A-listers available.
The backlash prompted the HFPA to admit a raft of new members, overhaul its bylaws, and implement changes addressing ethics and inclusion.
This year's awards took place behind closed doors in Beverly Hills due to the controversy and surging Covid-19 cases. No stars were present at the ceremony, and it was not televised.
