Liz Bonnin explores Ireland's geological history, looking at how it was formed from two entirely separate pieces of land that originated south of the equator.

She reveals how these ancient continents swallowed an ocean as they slowly approached each other over millions of years and how the collision point where they crashed eventually become Ireland.

North Sea Connection, 9.30pm, RTÉ One

Last week’s opening episode of this drama about an Irish fishing family getting caught up in the nets of drug dealers was a great watch.

This week, Swedish narcotics detective Tuva Palsson heads for Roskillane, where Sgt Egan is sceptical about her theory that someone in his village might be involved in smuggling.

Meanwhile, Aidan heads off pick up Ciara at the secluded cove where she'll be landing an illicit consignment - but Quinn, Bryan and Evie have a plan for a different outcome altogether.

Keys to My Life, 8.30pm, RTÉ One

Singer and broadcaster Majella O'Donnell (below) takes presenter Brendan Courtney on a nostalgic trip to meaningful homes and places that have shaped her life.

A return to her childhood home in Thurles brings up memories of her difficult relationship with her father, while in Tenerife she remembers how her life turned around when she met a certain Daniel in a local Irish bar.

The Meaning of Life, 10.25pm, RTÉ One

Joe Duffy meets musician and former Pogues bassist Cáit O'Riordan (below, with Ray D'Arcy), who talks about her wild and turbulent youth in the 1980s Irish music scene in London.

Along with her musical career, Cáit tells Joe about her alcohol addiction, and the end of her long-term relationship with Elvis Costello.

Frozen Planet II, 8.00pm, BBC One

Be prepared for a stunning visual experience as David Attenborough explores frozen regions around the world.

The first episode begins in Antarctica, where Emperor Penguin chicks are abandoned by their parents as spring begins and must find their way across the treacherous sea ice to the rich waters of the Southern Ocean.

In the Himalayas, the world's fluffiest cat hunts for gerbils and voles, while in the boreal forests circling North America, Europe and Asia, a Siberian tiger is on the lookout for black bears.

Unbeatable, 6.00pm, Virgin Media One

This is a brand-new general knowledge quiz, hosted by Jason Manford.

Over three rounds, contestants vie to find the single `unbeatable" answer and streak ahead of the rest to make the final where they can win a cash prize.

Simon Reeve's South America, 9.00pm, BBC Two

The adventurer Simon Reeve (below) sets off on a journey through the continent, beginning in the remote and little-visited north-east.

In Venezuela, Simon meets some of the thousands of migrants fleeing the economic collapse of their country, while he learns that neighbouring Guyana could be on the verge of its own oil boom.

He also meets a gun-toting former warlord who is now one of Suriname's most successful businessmen, and ends his journey in French Guiana, where he goes to the launch site of the European Space Agency.

Ceol ón Chlann, 10.30pm, TG4

Following the continued success of TG4's Ceol ón Chlann series, this fourth season explores six famous Irish musical families who have brought their music to the four corners of the world.

Each story is presented through rare footage from the archives of BBC, ITV, TG4 and RTÉ, and previously unseen private family footage.

First up are the Smyth siblings Seán, Cora and Breda grew up in Straide, county Mayo surrounded by a strong family tradition of Irish music and during this time they collectively won over 50 All-Ireland titles.

They each graduated in medicine while participating in the exciting music scene in Galway during their studies at UCG.

The series is narrated by Pádraigín Ní Uallacháin.

Ruby Rose and Frank Grillo star in this high-octane and tense action thriller.

It’s about a tenacious and troubled young woman inherits a luxury yacht from her estranged father and has to fight to survive when it gets hijacked by thieves.

Unable to escape and trapped on a yacht at high seas, the prey becomes the hunter as she turns the tables on the intruders and takes matters in her own hands.

The Invisible Man, 9.00pm, RTÉ2

Writer/director Leigh Whannell's thriller stars Elisabeth Moss, Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Harriet Dyer.

An abused woman flees for her life and takes refuge with a family.

It later appears that Cecilia Kass's ex has killed himself and she's due to inherit a fortune, but the fact he was experimenting with an invisibility suit makes her think he's come after her.
