Famous faces pay tribute to Britain's Queen Elizabeth

Following the news that Queen Elizabeth II has died at the age of 96, famous faces from the world of entertainment have been taking to social media to pay tribute.

Elton John, JK Rowling and Paddington Bear are amongst those paying tribute to Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and her "inspiring presence" following her death.

The British monarch was described as a "thread running through all our lives" during her lengthy reign and an "enduring, positive symbol of Britain all over the world".

Tributes flooded in immediately from all over the world after her death was announced on Thursday evening.

Elton John described the Queen as an "inspiring presence" and said he would "miss her dearly".

The musical megastar said the Queen had been a huge part of his life "from childhood to this day" in his own online tribute.

"Along with the rest of the nation, I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's passing," John wrote.

"She was an inspiring presence to be around, and lead the country through some of our greatest, and darkest, moments with grace, decency and a genuine caring warmth.

"Queen Elizabeth has been a huge part of my life from childhood to this day, and I will miss her dearly."

The official account of Paddington Bear also tweeted its respects to Queen Elizabeth.

"Thank you Ma'am, for everything," the account wrote.

The pair recently appeared in a comical sketch together as part of celebrations for the British monarch’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The video showed them sharing tea and marmalade sandwiches in Buckingham Palace.

Victoria Beckham has remembered the Queen for her "steadfast loyalty and service". The former Spice Girls star and fashion designer wrote on Twitter: "Today is a very sad day for the entire world.

"I'm deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved Monarch, Her Majesty The Queen.

"She will be remembered for her steadfast loyalty and service, and my thoughts are with the royal family at this time."

Helen Mirren, who portrayed the Queen on the silver screen and on the stage, described the monarch as the "epitome of nobility".

In a post on Instagram, the Oscar-winning British actress said: "I am proud to be an Elizabethan. We mourn a woman, who, with or without the crown, was the epitome of nobility."

Mick Jagger has said that throughout his whole life the Queen has "always been there" as he recalled watching key moments in her life.

The frontman of The Rolling Stones shared a photo of the monarch on his Instagram and wrote: "For my whole life Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II has always been there.

"In my childhood I can recall watching her wedding highlights on TV.

"I remember her as a beautiful young lady, to the much-beloved grandmother of the nation. My deepest sympathies are with the royal family."

Rock star Ozzy Osbourne said the news of the Queen's death was "devastating".

"I mourn with my country the passing of our greatest Queen," the Black Sabbath frontman wrote on Twitter, sharing a picture of the monarch.

"With a heavy heart I say it is devastating the thought of England without Queen Elizabeth II."

Stephen Fry admitted that he was "sobbing" following news of the death of Queen Elizabeth.

"Oh dear. Oh my. Oh heavens. Bless my soul. Oh lor. Heck," the actor and comedian wrote on Twitter.

In a separate post, he added: "I don't know why I’m sobbing. Silly really. Oh dear."

JK Rowling described the British monarch as "a thread winding through all our lives" during her seven-decade-long reign.

The Harry Potter author said the Queen had been an "enduring, positive symbol of Britain all over the world" and had "earned her rest".

"Some may find the outpouring of British shock and grief at this moment quaint or odd, but millions felt affection and respect for the woman who uncomplainingly filled her constitutional role for seventy years," Rowling wrote on Twitter.

"Most British people have never known another monarch, so she's been a thread winding through all our lives.

"She did her duty by the country right up until her dying hours, and became an enduring, positive symbol of Britain all over the world.

"She’s earned her rest."

Lorraine Kelly has paid tribute to the Queen after it was announced she has died at the age of 96.

Writing on Twitter, the Scottish television presenter said: "So sad. What a life of service and duty. Incredibly honoured to have met her. Always been there my whole life. Thoughts with her family and everyone who loved her."

Former Great British Bake Off host and TV presenter Sue Perkins tweeted: "What an extraordinary life.

"A fixed point, seemingly unchanged by the whirlings of history around her. So strange to be suddenly without."

BAFTA said in a statement: "The Queen occupies a unique place in the academy's history and will be missed enormously.

"Our thoughts are with our president, HRH the Duke of Cambridge and the royal family, to whom we offer our deepest sympathy".

James Bond star Daniel Craig said the Queen leaves "an incomparable legacy and will be profoundly missed".

In a statement, he said: "I, like so many, was deeply saddened by the news today and my thoughts are with the royal family, those she loved and all those who loved her.

"She leaves an incomparable legacy and will be profoundly missed."

The official Twitter account for Pinewood Studios also paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth after her death was announced.

"All at Pinewood are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning and much-loved British monarch, respected throughout the world."

The British film and TV studio was the location for the filming of many of the James Bond films.

The Queen participated in a humorous sketch with 007 actor Daniel Craig as part of the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony celebrations.
