Watch: Dáithí takes an icy plunge on Rose of Tralee

Dáithí Ó Sé got himself into some cold - very cold - water on Monday night's Rose of Tralee when he whipped off his Velcro trousers and took the plunge into a barrel of ice in the name of edu-tainment.

Dáithí was taking part in a demo of the Wim Hof Method by Kildare Rose Aisleigh Byrne about how immersing in ice can address a number of medical conditions and it was the first of many stunts from the action man host, including a light sabre battle, a science experiment and some, eh, bodybuilding posing.

Here are some of the best bits from night one of the Rose of The Tralee 2022...

Tipperary Rose Aisling O'Donovan confessed that she’s a huge fan of Daniel O’Donnell (and why not?) and she got a nice surprise at the start of the show when she was sent good wishes via a video recording from the man himself.

In an emotional moment, the father of Newfoundland and Labrador Rose Jennifer Mackey who couldn't be in Tralee on Monday sent a video message telling his daughter how proud he was of her.

Caption competition . . .

It is Kerry, the new home of Star Wars, so Florida Rose Jennifer Rose Waldeck challenged Dáithí to a lightsaber duel - then she was escorted offstage by an Imperial stormtrooper.

And the man of the match is... future TV personality Shane McHugh from Galway! They're all lovely lads (there! We said it!!!).

Shane who is paired with Ohio Rose, Sarah McInerney is a Policy Specialist working in Financial Regulation and is studying toward qualifying as a Barrister at the Honorable Society of King's Inns. He hails from a Family Beef Farm just off the N17 in Tuam, Co Galway, is a staunch Galwegian and is proud to be representing the maroon and white.

Later in the evening, Dáithí proved - once again - that he can turn his hand to anything when he struck some bodybuilding poses alongside Wexford Rose Joy Quigley.

The RTÉ Rose of Tralee International Festival continues on RTÉ One and the RTÉ Player from 8pm to 9pm and 9:35pm to 11:35pm on Tuesday.
