Dublin/Berlin-based electronic producers and audio-visual artists The Cope have released their debut single and accompanying dance film True Romance. We asked them the BIG questions . . .

Speaking about the new video, the duo of David Anthony Curley and Joe Furlong say, "Mirroring the themes of the track, the film is a meditation on love, isolation and control, and was shot on location in Antwerp in collaboration with acclaimed Irish choreographer Zoë Ashe-Browne."

Tell us three things about yourself?

We are a Dublin/Berlin-based duo. We met at an impromptu karaoke birthday party for Sorcha Richardson. Marrying music, film and dance is something we are very passionate about.

How would you describe your music?

The aim for us is to make music that people will want to dance to. It's alternative electronic at its core but it varies from being the kind of music you might get a bit emotional to with friends late at night at a festival, to more floor filler style club bangers.

Who are your musical inspirations?

We are both fans of 90s dance classics and French House, but our backgrounds in alternative and indie music definitely influence our song writing equally.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

David - B*witched in The Point Depot around 1997, first proper gig as a teenager was Bloc Party.

Joe - my sister took me to see Boyzone, circa 1997, and in my memory it was in the bingo hall in Whitehall in Dublin. The first ticket I bought for myself was Foo Fighters in The Point in 2002.

What was the first record you ever bought?

David - Something awful like Nickelback, but if I could go back and swap out the CD in my 11-year-old self's hands I would go for Homework by Daft Punk.

Joe - I think it was the Lost In Space soundtrack. I was probably 9 or 10. It had an absolute banger of a theme tune by Apollo 440.

What's your favourite song right now?

David - Down by Baynk.

Joe - The Smoke by The Smile.

Favourite lyric of all time?

David - "Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream. It is not dying." from Tomorrow Never Knows by The Beatles.

Joe - "I can never forget it, Promise me that you don't regret it, You and I were together, Even though we both knew better" from Never Come Back by Caribou.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

David - God Only Knows by The Beach Boys.

Joe - Stomp by The Brothers Johnson.
