Brad Pitt has laughed off recent comments he made about his movie career being on its "last leg" saying he "really" has to "work on my phrasing".

The 58-year-old actor sent fans into a frenzy following a recent interview with GQ in which seemed to announce his retirement from the movie industry.

In the magazine article, which was published in June, he said: "I consider myself on my last leg, this last semester or trimester," he said at the time. "What is this section gonna be? And how do I wanna design that?"

Pitt has now clarified his comments and admits he used a poor choice of words.

Setting the record straight in an interview with Deadline, Pitt said: "I really have to work on my phrasing. I was just saying, 'I'm past middle age and I want to be specific about how I spend those last things however they may be.’"

He added: "I've never been a five year plan kind of guy. I’m just, whatever feels right for the day. I still operate that way."

Pitt is currently promoting his new movie, Bullet Train, which sees him trying something new in an action comedy from the director of John Wick, David Leitch.

Bullet Train is in Irish cinemas from Wednesday, 3 August.
