Telefís, the duo of Jacknife Lee and the late Cathal Coughlan, have released the video for Space Is Us, the latest track from their forthcoming album, a Dó - watch it here.

Space Is Us features Sean O'Hagan, Cathal’s old confederate from his former band Microdisney, and the video was made by U2, R.E.M. and Snow Patrol producer Jacknife and done in his 'found footage’ style reflecting a Dó’s broad concept of Irish TV memories and adjacent political and social commentary.

Telefís released their acclaimed debut album, a hAon, last March. A Dó is out on 7 October and will feature the last music recorded by Cathal before his sad passing in May.

The duo continued to work on music and completed the record at the end of Spring.

"Cathal's dying was always a part of these songs. Not literally, but his reflections and explorations of where he came from were examined from this perspective," Jacknife says.

Cathal Coughlan

"After his death we could have waited to release the album, and we accepted that we might have to, but now we just want to celebrate Cathal. I want people to know that he was active and working up to the last few days of his life.

"We were working on more Telefís - writing and planning. There are many layers to Cathal Coughlan. The mischief, the tenderness, and the profound melancholy.

"It’s all here, and it’s some of his best work. Writing these songs during his illness knowing what lay ahead of him shows his commitment to words and ideas. It’s his life."

Stay tuned for more Telefís video exclusives on RTÉ Entertainment over the coming weeks.
