Marilyn Monroe's tragic life explored in new film Blonde

Ana de Armas has transformed into Marilyn Monroe in the full trailer for the upcoming film Blonde, set for release on Netflix on 28 September.

Based on the novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates, Blonde "boldly reimagines the life of Marilyn Monroe, exploring the split between her public and private selves".

It follows the actress from her volatile childhood as Norma Jeane Mortenson to her international stardom and high-profile romances.

Written and directed by Australian filmmaker Andrew Dominik (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Chopper), the film also stars Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams.

Blonde is released on Netflix on Wednesday, 28 September

Set to Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend, the trailer shows Monroe's glamorous life as she gets ready for a film premiere before posing for the paparazzi.

She then admits: "I can't face doing another scene with Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn doesn't exist."

Cuban-born de Armas (No Time to Die, Blade Runner 2049) is also seen recreating the famous movie still from the 1955 feature The Seven Year Itch in which Monroe's white dress blows up as she stands above a subway grate.

The trailer ends with the words: "Watched by all, seen by none."
