Daisy Edgar-Jones reveals a character she would love to play

Where the Crawdads Sing star Daisy Edgar-Jones has told RTÉ Entertainment that she would love to play "someone who's really cheerful and silly".

Edgar-Jones is in cinemas from this weekend in the adaptation of Delia Owens' best-selling mystery, but when talk turned to another dream role, she had someone very different in mind from Where the Crawdads Sing hero Kya.

"It would be fun to do something really heightened... absurd comedy would be really fun," the Normal People favourite said.

"It seems to be I often play characters who are a little bit... a bit sad (laughs) or going through quite a lot! So it would be fun to play someone who's really cheerful and silly, like a really absurd comedy."

When praised for having confidence in her comic timing, Edgar-Jones laughed: "I don't know! I think so - I think it's ok!

"Most of my earlier work, or where I learnt, was on comedy shows. Guest parts on comedy shows like Cold Feet and things like that - although I was never being that funny! But yeah, I don't think it's too bad!"

Edgar-Jones said she "fell so in love with Kya as a character" after reading Where the Crawdads Sing.

"I found her very enigmatic and really resilient and strong and yet also very curious and gentle," she continued.

"I felt like she was a character I hadn't played before."
