A teaser picture of Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan reprising their roles as Charlene and Scott on Neighbours has been released ahead of the soap's highly anticipated finale.

With the popular Australian show set to bow out after 37 years on screens, fans have been treated to a sneak peek of what's to come via the singer's Instagram page.

Taking to the picture-sharing platform, Minogue shared a snap of her lovingly embracing her co-star, with the caption: "Now we're back together."

Donovan also shared the picture on social media and praised Minogue, saying it is "so good to be back working with this legend".

In May, Neighbours bosses confirmed that Donovan and Minogue were set to reprise their roles as the iconic couple for the finale.

Executive producer Jason Herbison confirmed the news in a post on the show's Instagram and Twitter accounts.

"Scott and Charlene are the ultimate Neighbours couple and it would not feel right to end the show without them," he said.

"We are thrilled that Jason and Kylie have come home to play a very special part in our series finale. It has been an emotional experience for them, for us and I'm sure it will be for our viewers."

The accompanying pictures featured a script with 'Scott' and 'Charlene' written on it. Minogue and Donovan each shared one of the pictures on their Instagram accounts.

Minogue starred as Charlene in Neighbours from 1986 to 1988. Donovan starred as Scott from 1986 to 1989. The characters' wedding in 1987 - shown in 1988 in Ireland and the UK - was one of the key moments in Neighbours history.

In March, it was announced that the curtain was coming down because the soap had failed to find a new broadcaster in the UK following Channel 5's decision to cease its funding.

The soap, which has aired on RTÉ since 2 January, 2001, will finally come to an end this summer.

The second last episode will air on Tuesday, 2 August with the final 30-minute episode airing on Wednesday, 3 August.
