Black Bird, Apple TV+

Here’s a highly-anticipated drama series, written and executive produced by best-selling author Dennis Lehane (whose CV includes Shutter Island and Gone, Baby, Gone).

It features Taron Egerton as Jimmy Keene, a young convict who is given a dangerous task while behind bars in order to secure an early release from prison.

Based on a true story, Black Bird also stars Paul Walter Hauser, Greg Kinnear, Sepideh Moafi and the late Ray Liotta in his final TV appearance.

The Main Stage, 9.35pm, RTÉ One

Singer/songwriter Erica-Cody and Danny O’Reilly from The Coronas host this new music show featuring live studio performances, interviews and general craic, celebrating a feast of Irish artists and unique music collaborations.

This week’s second episode features The Coronas, Mick Flannery & Susan O’Neil, Gabrielle Aplin and The Scratch.

Depeche Mode at the BBC, 9.00pm

Following the recent death of Andy Fletcher, here’s a look back at past performances by the band, who emerged from the UK's post-punk scene over three decades ago.

From their first appearance on Top of the Pops in 1981 to performing on Later with Jools Holland in 2009, this programme shares archive testimony and recent interviews from core members Dave Gahan, Vince Clarke, Martin Gore and Fletcher.

Followed at 10pm by Depeche Mode at 6Music Festival, and Synth Britannia at 11pm and then Synth Brittania at the BBC at 12.30am.

If you’ve the staying power, there’s another chance to see the groundbreaking Pet Shop Boys 1991 tour at 1.30am.

The Old Man & the Gun, 10.30pm, RTÉ2

The pick of tonight’s movies (Brightburn on Film4 runs it a close second) is a fact-based crime drama, starring Robert Redford (in his final role), Casey Affleck and Sissy Spacek.

Redford plays Forrest Tucker, a criminal since the age of 15, has escaped from most of the prisons that tried to hold him.

At the end of his career, he has become a gentleman bank robber. However, cop John Hunt becomes determined to catch him.

New to Stream

Boo, Bitch, Netflix

Shades of the excellent coming-of-age movie Booksmart here as two senior BFFs make a last-ditch attempt to be seen.

But there’s a twist.

When one of them gets run over by a car and becomes a ghost, she continues to hang around school, fancy boys and walk into doors.

That’s a pretty provocative title, eh?

The Longest Night, Netflix

Armed men surround a psychiatric prison and cut off all communications. Their purpose: to capture serial killer Simón Lago - over six episodes and one night.

Here’s another one of those interactive specials.

This one’s about helping superstar Ranveer Singh and adventurer Bear Grylls brave the Serbian wilderness to find a rare flower.

How to Please a Woman, Sky Cinema & NOW

Gina (Sally Phillips) is taken by surprise when for her fiftieth birthday a male sex worker, a gift sent by her girlfriends, offers to do anything she wants.

She asks him to do for her what no one else will - she has him clean her house. Only later does Gina realise that he is from a removals business she was involved with liquidating.

Amused and delighted, her friends wish for a sexy cleaner themselves, sparking a new career for Gina who decides to employ the entire male removals team as consensual house cleaners.
