Tell us three things about yourself
I studied fashion in college. I'm a Virgo. I’m a really good cook
How would you describe your music?
Electronic R `n’ B with cool understated production and thought-provoking lyrics.
Who are your musical inspirations?
James Blake, H.E.R, Solange, Lauryn Hill, Rihanna.
What was the first gig you ever went to and the first record you ever bought/downloaded?
The first gig I went to was Eternal, my big brother took me for my birthday when I was little. Vernie waved at me, I was made up! Watching black female singers command the stage at that time was definitely impactful for me.
The first album I remember having was TLC Crazy Sexy Cool, this was a present from a different older brother and remains one of my favourite albums to this day.
What’s your favourite song right now?
Kendrick Lamar - N95.
Favourite lyric of all time?
It's from America by Simon and Garfunkel. "Kathy I'm lost I said, though I knew she was sleeping, I'm empty and aching and I don't know why". If you listen to this in context of the song, it sticks out like a punch of raw emotion and honesty before Paul Simon quickly switches back the rest of the narrative. It feels like a line from a theatre script and Kathy was real, which makes those feelings true. The song is a masterpiece and firmly sits in my top three.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
By Marvin Gaye, mainly because it makes me feel so good and the original is about Got To Give It Up seven minutes long so it lasts a bit longer than your average pick. However, I can't help thinking that Bob Marley songs never get old, so 'Is this Love' would be a close second.
