A new Netflix comedy-thriller series that includes Barack and Michelle Obama among its executive producers is to be filmed in Co Cork.

The cameras are due to begin rolling on Bodkin (working title) next week, with a cast that includes Will Forte (Saturday Night Live), Robyn Cara (Trying), Siobhán Cullen (The Dry), David Wilmot (Ripper Street), and Chris Walley (The Young Offenders).

Will Forte

It is billed as "a darkly comedic thriller about a motley crew of podcasters who set out to investigate the mysterious disappearance of three strangers in an idyllic, coastal Irish town".

"But once they start pulling at threads, they discover a story much bigger and weirder than they could have ever imagined," the synopsis continues.

"As our heroes try to discern fact from fiction - about the case, about their colleagues, and, most painfully, themselves - the series challenges our perception of truth and exposes the stories we tell ourselves to justify our beliefs or validate our fears."

Chris Walley

Barack and Michelle Obama are among the executive producers on the new series through their company Higher Ground, which said it is "ecstatic" to be working on "this wickedly wry thriller" as its first scripted series.

Also among the executive producers is Dubliner David Flynn. He is part of the production company wiip (Mare of Easttown, Toast of Tinseltown) that is joining Higher Ground and Netflix in bringing the new series to screens.
