The British Soap Awards 2022: Live, 8.00pm, Virgin Media One

Phillip Schofield hosts UK soap’s big ceremony live from Hackney Empire, with Coronation Street, Doctors, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks battling it out for the 14 coveted awards.

Alongside an array of soap favourites, some of entertainment's biggest names present the trophies in new categories Best Family and Best Leading Performer.

There are also more traditional awards Best British Soap, while one legend takes home this year's Outstanding Achievement Award.

Michael Palin: Travels of a Lifetime, 8.00pm, BBC Four

Legendary globetrotter Michael Palin (above) revisits his travel series, beginning with Around the World in 80 Days.

He draws on his personal archive of audio recordings and diary notebooks, and reflects on how he became a seasoned global traveller.

The first episode revisits his visits to Venice, Cairo, Saudi Arabia, India, Hong Kong and China - a nation that was closed to most westerners at the time.

Featuring contributions from fans and friends including David Attenborough, Joanna Lumley and Simon Reeve.

LGBTQ+ Hits at the BBC, 8.00pm, BBC Two

Performances by stars whose sex and sexuality is central to their careers and the songs they've created, including George Michael (below), Boy George, Freddie Mercury, Beth Ditto, MNEK, Lil Nas X and Barry Manilow.

Some pushed boundaries and challenged gender stereotypes from the very start, while others only revealed their true selves after years of success and speculation, - but all have played their part in changing the world of popular music.

Followed at 9pm by Pride Hits at the BBC - a musical celebration for International Pride Month, with a collection of performances by artists including Kylie Minogue, Elton John, Lady Gaga, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Dolly Parton and Dusty Springfield.

The Smile: Forget Everything You Knew… A Debut Concert in London, 9.00pm, Sky Arts

In January 2022, The Smile - a new project formed from Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood along with Sons of Kemet’s Tom Skinner - played their first-ever concerts live in London.

Performing three times across fifteen hours, each show was live-streamed around the world.

His film includes highlights from the band’s debut performances where they play songs from their inaugural album A Light for Attracting Attention.

The quiz hosted by Jennifer Zamparelli comes to the end of its eight-week run.

One player from each of three teams of two adults and two children is present in the studio, while the rest of their families at home are called upon at key moments.

They try to battle through three rounds to get the chance to win the top prize of €10,000.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, 9.30pm, RTÉ One

This grey-haired dramedy, starring Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith and Dev Patel, seems to have been on heavy rotation for many years, but it’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Seven English pensioners looking for a fresh start are drawn to an advert for a hotel in the Indian city of Jaipur, and plan to spend their retirement there.

They arrive to find the building dilapidated but are won over by the enthusiastic young manager, and each embarks on their own adventures in the city.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle, 9.50pm, RTÉ2

Director Matthew Vaughn's comedy adventure sequel, starring Taron Egerton, Colin Firth, Mark Strong and Julianne Moore.

Having saved the world once, secret agents Eggsy and Merlin join forces with their US counterparts to bring down a psychotic femme fatale.

Thankfully they are assisted by a veteran hero brought back from the dead, and cross paths with a kidnapped Elton John and a couple of killer robot dogs along the way.

Family Flick

Missing Link, 6.30pm, RTÉ One

Animated comedy, with the voices of Hugh Jackman, Zach Galifianakis, Zoe Saldana, David Walliams and Stephen Fry.

Fearless explorer Sir Lionel Frost is approached by fur-covered, eight-foot-tall creature Mr Link who, tired of living a solitary existence in the Pacific Northwest, wants to find his long-lost relatives in the fabled valley of Shangri-La.
