An Irish music festival is attempting to build the biggest disco ball of all time and smash the current world record.
Organisers of The Biggest 90's-00’s Disco Festival, which takes place on June 25th at Punchestown, Co Kildare, have hired Irish company Spectrum Productions to create a disco ball that will measure greater than 10.33 metres, which is the current world record size that was lifted into the air and rotated at the 2014 Bestival Festival in the UK.
Spectrum Productions are currently building the world-record attempt disco ball in a warehouse in Dublin.
Speaking about how big their glittering orb is going to be, a spokesperson for The Biggest 90’s-00’s Disco Festival said, "Think the height of a telephone pole or putting one giraffe on top of another and you are close!"
They added, "We have asked the team at Spectrum to build a giant disco ball to break the record - it will be nearly one tonne in weight and have over 1500 mirror tiles on it.
"It’s going to look spectacular when it’s hoisted into the air on the evening of the 25 June".
This will be the Biggest Disco’s first festival since 2019 and will feature acts of the 1990’s and 00’s including Maxi Jazz (Faithless), Basshunter, Vengaboys, Gala, and Paul Oakenfold.
Tickets priced €71.51 are available on Eventbrite and the festival is expected to attract up to 15,000 disco fans.
