Founding Bon Jovi bassist Alec John Such dies aged 70

The death has been announced of the bassist Alec John Such, a founding member of Bon Jovi. He was 70.

No cause of death has been given.

Announcing his friend and bandmate's passing on Twitter, Jon Bon Jovi wrote: "Alec, you will be missed."

Paying tribute in a statement on Twitter, the singer said: "We are heartbroken to hear the news of the passing of our dear friend Alec John Such.

"He was an original. As a founding member of Bon Jovi, Alec was integral to the formation of the band.

"To be honest, we found our way to each other thru him - He was a childhood friend of Tico [Torres, Bon Jovi drummer] and brought Richie [Sambora, former Bon Jovi guitarist] to see us perform.

"Alec was always wild and full of life. Today those special memories bring a smile to my face and a tear to my eye.

"We'll miss him dearly."

A New Jersey music scene veteran, New York-born Alec John Such was part of the Bon Jovi line-up from the band's formation in the early 1980s until 1994. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as part of the band in 2018.
