Tributes have been paid to The Wild Bunch and Dynasty star Bo Hopkins following his death from a heart attack.
US entertainment trade publication Deadline reports that Hopkins passed away in hospital in Van Nuys, California. His age is variously reported as 84 and 80.
Hopkins' lengthy screen career took in over five decades and 100 roles, beginning after army service.
He was born William Hopkins - the 'Bo' nickname came from his character in his first off-Broadway play, Bus Stop - in Greenville, South Carolina and appeared in television series before his big film break in Sam Peckinpah's iconic 1969 Western The Wild Bunch.
As The Wild Bunch bank robber Clarence 'Crazy' Lee, Hopkins was a scene-stealer and would go on to work with Peckinpah again on The Getaway (1972) and The Killer Elite (1975) in attention-grabbing supporting roles.
Another memorable Hopkins turn was as the CIA agent known as 'Tex' in Alan Parker's classic prison drama Midnight Express.
His other film credits included George Lucas' American Graffiti, John Schlesinger's The Day of the Locust, Oliver Stone's U Turn and Ron Howard's Hillbilly Elegy - his final role.
Along with playing Matthew Blaisdel in the first season of Dynasty, Hopkins' many TV credits included The Rockford Files, Murder, She Wrote, The A-Team, Hawaii Five-O, Ironside, Barnaby Jones and Bonanza.
Variety reports that he is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sian Eleanor Green; his son, Matthew Hopkins, and his daughter, Jane Hopkins.
RIP Bo Hopkins. I acted with Bo and directed him as well. He was an honest and, authentic actor and more importantly a terrific guy who spoke the truth with kindness and integrity. Those of us who knew Bo can count ourselves lucky. https://t.co/TkzZrN4IUs
