Fellow musicians, fans and friends have been paying tribute to Cork musician Cathal Coughlan, who has died aged 61.
Mr. Coughlan was front man of the acclaimed bands Microdisney, Fatima Mansions and more recently had formed Telefís with music producer Jackknife Lee.

In a statement released on Monday, the late singer's family said Mr. Coughlan had 'slipped away peacefully in hospital after a long illness' on May 18th.
Posting on social media, Tim Burgess of The Charlatans said, "Cathal Coughlan, music genius, has left this realm. His brilliant songs remain. Play them loud and remember him".

Musician and writer Andrew Mueller said, "From the first moment I heard Cathal Coughlan, he was one of my favourite singers and songwriters; he became one of my favourite people. A colossal voice, a sharp and compassionate pen, and as smart and funny off record as on. There was nobody like him. Go well, friend".

Sad to hear of the death of Cathal Coughlan. There are lines of songs that stay in your head and for some reason "Put that suitcase down before you answer me" has always stayed in mine. https://t.co/UgvnTe5L25

Have been listening to Cathal Coughlan for 35 years, so hard to believe he is no longer with us. His body of work was sensational: (1) one of the most-loved Irish albums ever, (2) the most interesting Irish album ever (3) best-ever album sleeve and (4) stunning solo record. I was brought up in Glounthane Co Cork. Lived near Cathal Coughlan. His mum taught me in primary school. He may have fancied my sister. He remembered her name with a wry smile the last time we spoke. Devastated to hear of his passing. An artist apart.
