Irish actress Nicola Coughlan has revealed that the storyline in Bridgerton 3 will centre around the relationship between her character Penelope Featherington and her long term crush Colin Bridgerton.
The Derry Girls star revealed the news that season three of the hugely popular Netflix period drama will tell the love story of her Penelope and Colin, who is played by Luke Newton, in an Instagram post.
She wrote alongside a black and white photo of herself and Newton: "Like Lady Whistledown I've been keeping quite a big secret for quite a long time... but I can finally tell you that @bridgertonnetflix Season Three is Colin and Penelope's Story."
Coughlan told Netflix's Tudum of the upcoming storyline: "I feel like if you see Penelope fawning over this boy for another season, you'll be like, 'Get it together! Come on, move on and get over it.
"Jess has talked to Luke and I through the season, and I think people are going to be really obsessed. I think book fans are going to be happy."
This is a shakeup from Bridgerton's inspiration, Julia Quinn's novels of the same name.
The first two seasons were based on the first two novels - Season 1 followed Daphne Bridgerton's (Phoebe Dynevor) love story with Simon (Regé-Page Jean), while the second revolved around Anthony Bridgerton's (Jonathon Bailey) romance with Kate (Simone Ashley).
The third book focuses on Benedict Bridgerton's love life, but that season is likely to be pushed to a later date, with Penelope and Colin's love story, which is told in the fourth book, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, being moved up.
