Tulsa band Wilderado have released their new single, Head Right and play support to Alt J on their sold-out shows at 3Olympia shows on May 22nd and 23rd. We asked Wilderado's guitarist and vocalists Tyler Wimpee the BIG questions . . .

The trio have also just released their eponymous debut album, which was produced by James McAlister (The National, Sufjan Stevens, Taylor Swift), Chad Copelin (Broncho, LANY) and Angelo Petraglia (Kings of Leon), and completed a sold-out tour of the US.

Speaking about Head Right, Wilderado’s Max Rainer says: "Towards the end of 2018 and all throughout 2019 we were constantly on the road. In between tours I was flying to different places, meeting producers, working on songs and trying to figure out what it was we were going to do next.

"Somewhere in the spring of ’19 we were all in Nashville hanging out with a guy named Angelo talking about how sometimes the best way to ruin a song, life, or anything really, is to take it too seriously.

"That afternoon we wrote Head Right. It was the first time in forever we had written a song, lyrics and everything, all together. We’re happy to share it with you now as it represents a turning point for us as a band, a return to the basics and the feeling of writing music while not caring about much at all".

Tell us three things about yourself?

My name is Tyler and I currently live in Los Angeles with my wife, Tori, our 16-month-old daughter, Tulip, and our dog, Rooney. If I find any free time, which isn’t much these days, I’ll be golfing. I’ve recently really gotten into film photography.

How would you describe your music?

I would say our music is for everyone. I believe anyone can find a song in our catalogue that suits them. Whether they relate to something said or a feeling. Our genre feels ever-changing, but we’ve always tried to write songs that felt good to us.

Who are your musical inspirations?

I have always been a fan of the early Kings of Leon records and early Coldplay. Those songs were very raw and from the heart, and that’s what inspires me.

What was the first gig you ever went to and the first record you ever bought/downloaded?

I’m from a small town in Texas, so my first concert was to see a Texas country band, Cross Canadian Ragweed at Billy Bobs. First record I remember buying was Take Off Your Pants and Jacket by Blink 182.

What’s your favourite song right now?

Big City Boys by Broncho.

Favourite lyric of all time?

Tough one. There’s an album by Flyte called This is Really Going to Hurt that came out last year that we all really dug into. Everything lyrically (and musically) on that album is so perfect and thoughtful. In the song Losing You towards the end he says, "you stripped me of everything, and I hate you, I really do, Still, I don’t think I’ll get used to losing you." Kind of dark, and I’m not going through any sort of heartbreak, but the song and delivery of that line always gets me jacked. Perfect album.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Oh La La by The Faces.
