Filming is underway in Dublin on the comedy feature Four Mothers, an Irish-set adaptation of Gianni di Gregorio's 2008 festival and box office hit Mid-August Lunch.

James McArdle (Mare Of Easttown) and Fionnula Flanagan (The Others) will star alongside Wild Mountain Thyme's Dearbhla Molloy, Cinderella's Paddy Glynn and Nowhere Special's Stella McCusker.

The script was written by the Thornton brothers Darren and Colin, best known for A Date For Mad Mary which won an IFTA in 2017.

The film tells the story of a novelist (McArdle) who successfully releases a new book while caring for his ill mother. However, his plans for a big promotional tour in the US are thrown into disarray when three more elderly women (played by Molloy, Glynn and McCusker) land on his doorstep.

Four Mothers is being produced by Ida's Eric Abraham and Moffie's Jack Sidey from Portobello Films and Television, with Sing Street's Martina Niland producing for Port Pictures.

It's being funded by Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, RTÉ, The Irish Tax Credit and the UK's Portobello Films and Television and The Common Humanity Arts Trust.
