New or Returning Shows

Friday Night Soccer, 7.30pm, RTÉ2

It’s Sligo Rovers v Shamrock Rovers (KO 7.45pm), the Battle of the Rovers in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division encounter at The Showgrounds.

As I'm in work until 6pm, this is a handy one for me. Hope the missus doesn't mind me lighting flares in the front room.

Shamrock Rovers' Jack Byrne

Liam Buckley’s Bit O’Red finished third last term, while Stephen Bradley’s side were champions for the second successive campaign.

While Derry City’s visit tonight to Saint Pat’s is the bigger game, this encounter is always box office in Sligo, as the football-mad townsfolk love to see their beloved Rovers put one over the Hoops, or 'Shams' as they're known around Ben Bulben.

Richard Hammond’s Crazy Contraptions, 8.00pm, Channel 4

This new series hosted by Richard Hammond (Above, right, back in his Top Gear days) sees engineering enthusiasts from around the UK competing to create the best chain-reaction machines from everyday objects.

For starters, three brothers from Somerset and a team from Loughborough University are challenged to build devices so Hammond can straighten his duvet and `make the bed" without leaving the bathtub.

Machine guru Zach Umperovitch is the expert judge and Shini Somara fills in the science behind the teams' eccentric contraptions.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Sky Cinema & NOW TV

Rare in comic book movies, this sequel to 2018’s antihero adaptation has a strong sense of humour – though it still has the essential CGI action sequences.

Even if you haven't seen the first film, or never even heard of Venom, this is well worth a look.
