Cork Pop/Indie trio The Burma have released the video for their new single, Don't Believe Your Dreams. We asked them the BIG questions . . .
Tell us three things about yourself?
We're from Cork and Clare. Pete and Tony are from Cobh and Cian is from Doolin. We're releasing our debut album, Sucker For Stars, later this year. Peter got stuck in the doors of a London tube on two separate occasions.
How would you describe your music?
With difficulty. We usually just call it Indie out of ease. In the past couple of years, I think we've learned to narrow down a broad range of influences and it's helped us shape our own unique sound. It's an ongoing thing and we're excited to see where the next bunch of songs take us.
Who are your musical inspirations?
The Neighbourhood, The Smiths, Frank Ocean, Tame Impala, Jeff Buckley, The Strokes.
What was the first gig you ever went to and the first record you ever bought/downloaded?
Arctic Monkeys on their Humbug tour in 2009 at The 02 in Dublin. I bought Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus on holidays in Ireland somewhere. It had the music video on it too if you played it on your computer. Money well spent.
What’s your favourite song right now?
Light Me Up by Flyte. They never released a recorded version, so I just watch a live version on the Sofar Sounds YouTube page.
Favourite lyric of all time?
So many. I heard a really nice one on The Killers’ new album the other day. "We had that treadmill now for months, I think she might've used it once, If I shut my mouth and keep the peace, She'll cook my eggs in bacon grease". Reminds me of the great John Prine.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Tiptoe Through The Tulips by Tiny Tim.
Where can people find your music/more information?
If you'd like to catch us live we'll be playing festivals around Ireland this year like All Together Now, Wild Roots and The Doolin Folk Festival. You can find us as "theburmamusic" on all our socials or our website.
