Pick of the Day

Redemption, 9.00pm, Virgin Media One

Last week’s opening episode of this new drama was painfully slow-paced, but the presence of Paula Malcomson and the curious tale of a lost daughter who turns up a corpse 20 years later will have me tuning in again tonight.

Malcomson’s DI Colette Cunningham is a tough Scouse cop - but she’s also a grieving mother trying to look after two grandchildren she’s never known.

Confused about her latest discovery, Colette heads to the hospital where her deceased daughter Stacey worked to speak to those who knew her in the hopes of understanding her better.

As she pieces together an image of Stacey and her life, something doesn't quite add up.

At home, meanwhile, Colette's grandparenting skills are tested as she adjusts to living with Liam and Cara.

If you missed last week's first episode, it's available on the Virgin Media Player.

Panorama: The Post Office Scandal, 10.45pm, BBC One

I remember reading about this shocking story when it first broke. It must have been a nightmare for everyone implicated.

It involved hundreds of Post Office employees in towns and villages across the UK whose lives were devastated by false accusations of losing or stealing money, when a computer system could have been to blame.

This Panorama special reveals the damning evidence that was kept from them and investigates how and why the Post Office, a multinational tech company, and the UK Government covered up the truth for so long.

Dispatches: Inside the Metaverse- Are You Safe? 8.00pm, Channel 4

Yinka Bokinni (below) goes undercover to investigate the latest new new frontier in cyberspace.

The big tech companies say the future of the internet is one where, via an avatar, we can all interact in a parallel universe.

But as well as a thrilling new world, she also finds a dangerous one in which some apps expose users to racism, sexually explicit behaviour and even sexual assault.

Travel Man: 48 Hours in Antwerp, 8.30pm, Channel 4

Another week, another weekend away. This time around Joe Lycett is joined by Katherine (IT Crowd) Parkinson to explore the Belgian city of Antwerp.

Typically quirky, the trip sees them take a golfing tour of the city's most beautiful squares, getting a history lesson along the way.

They also visit De Koninck Brewery, where they sample five different food and beer pairings, and explore a network of subterranean tunnels that criss-cross the city.

New or Returning Shows

Bling Ring: Hollywood Heist, 10.00pm, Channel 4

This three-part documentary comes promising to lift the lid on one of the most infamous crime sprees of the internet age.

Between October 2008 and August 2009 a wave of burglaries took place in some of the richest suburbs of LA, rocking Hollywood to its core.

The thieves raked in more than $3 million worth of cash, art, designer goods and jewellery from A-list celebrities - including the likes of Orlando Bloom (above).

The culprits were eventually revealed to be a group of suburban teenagers who planned their heists based on paparazzi sites and social media posts.

Imagine: Miriam Margolyes – Up for Grabs, 11.45pm, BBC One

Miriam Margolyes (below) is a much-loved and most provocative actress, as well-known for her candid chat show appearances as roles in Call the Midwife, the Harry Potter movies and Martin Scorsese's Age of Innocence.

Following the release of her autobiography, This Much Is True, she opens up to Alan Yentob, with typical frankness, about her career highs and her most vulnerable moments.

Offering further insight into her character are friends and colleagues Richard E Grant, Charles Dance, Eileen Atkins, Patricia Hodge, Tony Robinson and Vanessa Redgrave.

Crimecall, 9.35pm, RTÉ One

Host Sharon Ní Bheoláin (below) is back to present this month's appeals for help from the public in solving crimes, featuring reconstructions, CCTV footage, news features and a panel of police advisers taking calls.

Navalny, 9.00pm, BBC Two

Here’s a classic example of how nasty Vladimir Putin can be when it comes internal Russian dissent.

In August 2020, a plane travelling from Siberia to Moscow made an emergency landing. One of its passengers, Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, was deathly ill.

Taken to a local Siberian hospital and eventually evacuated to Berlin, doctors there confirmed that he had been poisoned with Novichok, a nerve agent implicated in attacks on other opponents of the Russian government.

This documentary follows Navalny - who's now under lock and key in Russia - and his team as they unravel the plot against him, find evidence of the Kremlin's involvement, and prepare to go public with their findings.

Missions, 10.00pm, BBC Four

It’s the third season of the French sci-fi drama, and it returns with no less than a triple serving of episodes.

Back from Mars alone, Sam finds Earth different from the world he left, so even the limited truths he can share seem insane.

The story continues at 10.30pm when a provocative encounter revives traumatic memories for Peter. He seeks to exercise control over Sam's situation, but Fate intervenes.

Then at 10.55pm, with new-found knowledge, Peter tracks down some familiar faces, until he meets his match and a deadly threat.

Ghosts, 9.00pm, RTÉ2

Here’s the third season of this amiable and very English comedy from the people behind Horrible Histories.

As the show resumes, a film crew comes to Button House to shoot a reconstruction of an assassination plot for a historical documentary - a scheme which may have involved one of the spirits.

Mike persuades Alison to give an interview about the old house in the hope of drumming up some publicity, forcing her to turn to Thomas for advice on the art of public speaking.
