Pick of the Day

Mark Moriarty: Off Duty Chef, 8.30pm, RTÉ One

Here’s yet another foodie show. This one’s about getting some staple meals down pat.

It’s all about techniques and tips to master basic recipes as Mark Moriarty aims to inspire and encourage home cooks to get off on the culinary right foot.

He begins with a classic carbonara – a dish that’s rarely right, even in Italian restaurants - with a chef's trick for serving up, then on to one of his favourites, a deliciously simple yet elegant carrot cake.

Don’t Miss

Panorama, 8.30pm, BBC One

In a special subtitled Obesity: Who Cares If I'm Bigger? Clair Norris (below) of EastEnders fame examines if the UK Government’s strategy to help people lose weight is working.

One in four adults in the UK are currently living with obesity, a health risk highlighted by the Covid pandemic.

Clair meets teenagers on a weight management scheme in Sheffield, a football team in Norfolk, and a dancer running classes for plus size women.

She delves into the complex reasons why some people find it difficult to lose weight and asks if it is possible to be overweight and stay healthy.

Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr, 9.00pm, BBC One

The three semi-finalists upgrade lakeside holiday lodges in the heart of the Cotswolds, each of which includes an open-plan kitchen, living and dining space and an outside terrace.

The buildings are decidedly beige, giving the designers a blank canvas to work on - and knowing they are only one week away from the final they really go to town.

There are schemes ranging from bold primary colours inspired by a classic 1980s movie to a sophisticated monochrome look.

Michelle Ogundehin (above, with host Alan Carr) judges their efforts with help from designer Abigail Ahern, while Alan Carr just carries on being Alan Carr.

Dinosaurs: The Final Day with David Attenborough, 00.20am, BBC One

A second chance to catch this fascinating documentary that first went out on Good Friday. I know I forgot to record it until I was well on the way to see Shamrock Rovers play Saint Pat's.

This time around, the legendary David Attenborough (below) brings to life, in unprecedented detail, the last days of the dinosaurs.

Palaeontologist Robert DePalma has made an incredible discovery in a prehistoric graveyard: fossilised creatures, astonishingly well preserved, that could help change our understanding of the last days of the dinosaurs.

Evidence from his site records the day when an asteroid bigger than Mount Everest devastated our planet and caused the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Based on brand new evidence, witness the catastrophic events of that day play out minute by minute.

As the first multi-platinum-selling, all-female band to play their own instruments, write their own songs and soar to No 1 on the album charts, the Go-Go's are rock's most successful female band.

This music profile chronicles the meteoric rise to fame of a band born of the LA punk scene that not only captured but created a zeitgeist.

After huge success, the band split in 1985 with singer Belinda Carlisle going on to have a massive global hit with Heaven Is a Place on Earth.

The Go-Go's reformed in 1999, and Carlisle continues to perform with them regularly while also maintaining her solo career.

Inside No 9, 11.15pm, BBC Two

The return of the darkly comic anthology, written by and starring Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith, starring Mark Gatiss and Diane Morgan.

Apparently, Morgan steals the show here. No surprise to anyone who’s seen her play the likes of Motherhood’s Liz, Kath in After Life, or Philomena Cunk on Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe.

Lawrence arranges a special reunion on a boat for his old university friends Darren and Callum, but the day does not unfold quite as they expected.

As they strike out across the remote lake, their conversation takes them into troubled waters.

Here’s the second and final part of a documentary charting the rollercoaster life and career of football legend Paul Gascoigne (below), whose on-field brilliance has been rivaled by a troubled private life.

As well as a study of Gazza's life in the public eye, it’s also the story of the amoral and often reprehensible actions of the UK tabloid press.

In this concluding episode, his career reaches a highpoint at Euro '96, but he is rocked by injuries and scandal, with the tabloid press using illegal means to chart his every downfall.
